Libraries in Delhi
There are some very good libraries in Delhi. These are well maintained and are easily accessible. They have very good collection of books and works. There are basically two kind of libraries, the one operated by the embassy and high commission of the respective country and the one operated by the Indian government. In the first category the major names are British Library, American Culture center, Hungarian Center, Max Muller Germen Center, Russian Center and Iranian Culture Center among others. In the second category major names are, Sahitya Academy and Delhi Public Library.
British Library Delhi
The British library is owned and operated by the Royal Britain High Commission. This library and culture is very popular among Delhites. This library has a very good collection of books, magazines, microfilms and DVDs. Short period membership such as single day membership and weeklong memberships are available. It is situated on K.G. road near Connaught Circus outer circle.
American Culture Center Delhi
The American culture center library is operated by American Embassy and has a good collection of books, periodicals and magazines. The only dampeners are the fact that the books are basically on American perspective and you have to go through heavy security check-up. So if you are a blue blooded European then there are chances you might not like the books and the place as whole. This library too is situated on K.G. road at the stone throw distance of The British Library.
Sahitya Academy
This library is considered to be one of the largest in the country and has books on nearly every topic under the sun. Apart from sections dedicated to English, Hindi and Urdu, the library has sections dedicated to vernacular literatures too. This library is situated near Mandi House Metro station, a 2 minutes ride from the Connaught Place.
Delhi Public Libraries
There are numerous public libraries in Delhi but the good ones are the two situated at Sarojini Nagar and Chandini Chowk. These libraries have a large volume of books on nearly every topic. The only dampeners are their staffs who are very rude and give laid back image at times.
