National Rail Museum
The National Rail museum is a must visit site in Delhi. This is the only museum in Asia of its kind. It is a great attraction because of its collection of locomotives and carriages. It is a must visit for the person who likes railway history and wants to know about its evolution. Even persons who like train journey are bound to love this place. Among others you will find beautiful models of locomotives and coaches of all kind and make that includes he very first steam engine that rolled in India from Bombay to Thane. The locomotives are displayed in the open space spread in its sprawling 10 acres campus. The highlight of the museum is the Fairy Queen built in 1855. It was the second locomotive to be brought and the first one to be built in India. It is undoubtedly the best-preserved locomotive of its era and genre.
Children love the ride in the toy train on the miniature rail track around the national Rail museum. Nevertheless, the pearl of this ocean is a locomotive of 1880’s that is still in working position. You can also visit some of the lavish salons it displays. These salons truly signify the grandeur of the Indian royalty. There is a Viceroy Dining Car that was built in 1889. It was the first of its kind in the world. Besides the lavish royal coaches of the Victorian era such as the Prince of Wales Saloon built in 1875, Maharaja of Mysore Saloon built in 1899 and the Maharaja of Baroda’s Saloon built in 1886 are no less in grandeur.
